What’s on your bucket list?

What’s on your bucket list?

It’s easy to get caught up in the tiny details of day to day life, then realise a few months have passed by in the blink of an eye. We often say to ourselves “I’ll do that next year” or “there’s plenty of time to do that”.

But the truth is, no one knows what’s around the corner.

It’s why so many of us create a ‘bucket list’. Writing down our goals and dreams reminds us what’s important, so that we can do something about it. This doesn’t need to be about a race against time; it’s about maximising life to the fullest and having no regrets.

Best foot forward

Our very own Marie Smith, is preparing to tick off something from her own list. In September, she’ll be walking the Great Wall of China in support of Framework, an East Midlands based charity supporting homeless people.

She said “I love exploring new places and cultures and I’ve been a keen hiker since I was a child, when I lived in America. To be able to visit one of the new wonders of the world whilst raising money for such a great cause, is the trip of a lifetime and something I’ll never forget”.

You can find out more about Marie’s trip here.

She’s not the only one

Carolyn Talkes-Nicholls recently performed the Mozart Requiem in New York’s Carnegie Hall. “There was a moment as I stood on that iconic stage, thinking about the musicians who have stood there before me, when it was hard to believe I’d really done it! That sense of fulfilment will stay with me for the rest of my life.”

You don’t have to go to the ends of the earth though. Other members of our team list learning to play the guitar, doing a TED talk and building their own house as things they’d love to achieve in their lifetimes.

Get writing

If you don’t have a bucket list, why not pick up your pen? It costs nothing and won’t take much time (depending on how carried away you get). But, what you’ll gain is clarity around what you want in life, which is a pretty good exchange!

If you do have one, check it’s all still relevant or if there’s anything missing? Maybe you’ve changed your mind about jumping in an ocean with great whites!

It can be tricky to get started, so you could begin with a ‘reverse bucket list’. That’s just writing down everything you’ve already achieved. It’s probably less daunting and might even motivate you to dream a bigger dream!

We’ll end on a quote from the incredible Stephen Hawking;

“I have lived with the prospect of an early death for the last 49 years. I’m not afraid of death, but I’m in no hurry to die. I have so much I want to do first.”

We’d love you to share what’s on your list with us, so please get in touch.
